You may have noticed, but we haven’t posted a blog for a few weeks?
That’s because things change, but especially over the past 3 years! There’s been so much change, there were times during 2020 went it felt like tax rules changed daily rather than the twice a year maximum we were all used to.
We had phrases like “a new norm” be used.
So, now that the Pandemic is behind us it felt like the right time to review what are offer in terms of advice and support, that means reviewing our blogs, podcast show, newsletters, and… you get the picture!
Blogs
We’ve been putting out weekly blogs now for several years, but we needed to ask ourselves 2 questions
- Was that the correct frequency?
- Did our blog offer value?
We track our web traffic, not surprising really for an accountant to track something… This shows that people are frequently visiting our blog pages, they are the most popular pages on our website. So this tells us that the blogs must offer some sort of value, otherwise people wouldn’t visit them.
As for the frequency, that’s the Million Dollar Question isn’t it! A copywriting client of ours recommends a fortnightly blog, meanwhile a marketing client recommends weekly blogs, furthermore one of our social media clients said the frequency of posts is a more important factor than the frequency of new blogs .
So, we’re non the wiser! But for now we’re sticking with weekly blogs but we’re going to mix up the format and try to add themes, such as:
- Accountancy Tips
- Business Development
- Business Tips
- Fun Topics
Podcasts
It’s been fun recording the podcasts and the feedback has been fantastic, with downloads far higher than we could have wished (especially as we’ve done ZERO paid for marketing).
So, we’re not going to change too much of this format – hey, if it ain’t broke… don’t fix it!
But one change that we want to make is to actually go LIVE with these shows and so that’s exactly what we’re going to do! The shows will be be livestreamed onto YouTube.
Newsletters
It’s a pet hate of mine, to call these things ‘newsletters’, but what else are they meant to be called?
The open rates on the weekly newsletters were great, higher than industry standard and we can see a drop in website traffic once the newsletters were paused.
So, we’re going to resume the weekly newsletters that get emailed out plus we’re going to explore the possibility of adding them to our website… A sort of archive facility for you, if you like.
Services
This is a fascinating area to review, as we see budgets and cashflow squeezed by the “cost of living crisis[sidebar: Crisis?!?!]” we’ve seen very erratic sales patterns and from talking to other accountants this has been mirrored throughout the industry.
We used to offer a 3 tiered approach to services, this was highly popular and we only put this on hold because of the pandemic and the need to be reactive to our clients needs. We’re now in a position where we need to move away from being reactive to being proactive, so we’re bringing back our tiered pricing but we’re also adding extra advisory services to help businesses move to becoming more proactive.
Sidebar
The cost of living crisis… Have you noticed how everything is a crisis?
A football team loses a couple of matches and they are “in crisis”.
Inflation goes up to 10% and there is a “cost of living crisis”.
The definition of a crisis is a time of intense difficulty or danger… Are the media just throwing the word crisis around as a form of click bait? Same as turmoil…
Now is a time to turn down the volume of the scaremongering media and turn up the volume on our own brilliance and have a bit more faith in our own intuition, ability and skillset.
Thanks to all of our clients, partners, associates, suppliers and friends.
We’ve had 3 tough years, but now is the time for positive change and to look forward not backwards.
